We are seeking a detail-focused Staff Accountant with tax preparation experience to join a growing public accounting firm in Middletown, Delaware. The role combines client accounting services and tax compliance responsibilities, providing hands-on experience across bookkeeping, financial reporting, and tax return preparation. Key Responsibilities
• Record and maintain client financial transactions within general ledger systems with accuracy and timeliness
• Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations and account reconciliations
• Prepare and file payroll tax returns including Forms 941, UC-8, W-2, and 1099
• Assist with preparation of individual and entity tax returns using UltraTax software
• Review financial transactions to confirm proper tax treatment and compliance
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules
• Maintain organized documentation and workpapers for tax and accounting engagements
• Post journal entries including depreciation, amortization, and investment activity
• Develop client budgets and produce budget-to-actual variance analysis reports
• Support payroll processing and ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations
• Provide responsive support to clients and collaborate closely with internal accounting teams
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and operational processes
Requirements:
• Prior public accounting experience is required
• Experience preparing individual and/or entity tax returns
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation
• Hands-on experience using QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online
• Familiarity with UltraTax and entity tax return preparation
• Experience supporting payroll processing and payroll tax compliance
• Comfortable working within cloud-based accounting systems and digital workflows
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Accounting CS / Creative Solutions, Practice CS, and FileCabinet CS
• Exposure to nonprofit accounting practices and internal control procedures
• Interest in pursuing CPA licensure
