The Staff Accountant supports the company’s growing accounting and financial reporting needs by owning day-to-day accounting activities and helping bring core accounting work in-house. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely month-end and year-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. The Staff Accountant works closely with the VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer in a lean finance function, partners with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting matters, and contributes to process improvements that strengthen efficiency and internal controls as the business scales.
Areas of Ownership
General Ledger Accounting: Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
Reconciliations: Perform timely and accurate balance sheet account reconciliations with appropriate supporting documentation.
Accounts Receivable: Manage customer invoicing, apply payments, monitor AR aging, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, execute payments, and manage vendor onboarding and maintenance.
Payroll Accounting: Record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts.
Close Support: Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Fixed Assets: Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation and amortization as applicable.
Compliance Support: Assist with sales tax, payroll tax, and other statutory or compliance-related filings.
Audit Support: Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for internal and external audits.
Process Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes, documentation, and controls to support scalability and accuracy.
Partners to Collaborate With and Support
VP of Finance: Support day-to-day accounting execution, close processes, and continuous improvement of financial operations.
Chief Financial Officer: Partner on accurate reporting, compliance support, and audit readiness.
Cross-Functional Partners: Work with principals, project managers, and contractors to resolve accounting questions and ensure accurate financial data.
Measures of Success
Timely and accurate completion of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations with minimal review comments.
Consistent achievement of month-end and year-end close deadlines.
Clean, well-documented support for audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
Increased efficiency and reduced bottlenecks in day-to-day accounting processes.
Demonstrated ownership and independence by the one-year mark, with proactive contributions to process and control improvements.

Professional Experience
2–3+ years of hands-on accounting experience.
Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Hands-on exposure to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, and close processes.
Intermediate proficiency in Excel and experience working with accounting systems.
Familiarity with accounting tools such as Zoho, QuickBooks, Bill.com, or Ramp is a plus.
