POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial information for internal and external use while maintaining the integrity of accounting records.  This position is also responsible for analyzing and reconciling assigned balance sheet accounts. Incumbents in this position are assigned to various departments and are responsible for specialized familiarity with the operations and financial statements of the assigned departments.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the daily/monthly posting and reporting of revenues and expenses at the property.
 
Gathers and examines source information to verify balance sheets (bank accounts, cash, inventory, etc.) to reconcile all accounts (monthly) and produce summary statements with supporting documentation. Immediately reports any issues or inaccuracies to the Accounting Manager/Controller and Director of Finance.
    
Assists internal, contracted, and regulatory auditors in their examination of accounting records to ensure that auditors receive adequate information and interpretation for effective inspection of Belterra Park records.
 
Must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  This position works consistently with a variety of people-both at the property and corporate level. 
 
Reviews, analyzes, and adjusts financial statements of departments in order to ensure their accuracy. This is accomplished by both submitting information to the Financial Shared Services Accounting team and through journal entries prepared onsite.
 
Assists Belterra Park Directors and Managers in the interpretation of departmental financial statements to ensure that adequate and accurate information is provided regarding financial statements.
 
Assists with the scanning and preparation of information used as part of the daily accounts payable process. This includes picking up information from the warehouse and matching receiving documentation with purchase orders and invoices.
 
Participates in property inventory counts and variance resolution.
 
Assists with the auditing, invoicing, recording, and reconciling of accounts receivables in order to ensure that all work is completed on a timely basis.
 
Assists with audits and entries related to gaming, non-gaming, racing and sportsbook along with performing some duties as the Horseman’s Bookkeeper on rare occasions (backup when needed).
 
Prepare and maintain data analyses for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting on property volumes, labor trends, and other key metrics.
 
Assists with monitoring banking activity surrounding check issuances and clearing. Helps review exceptions as part of the positive-pay process.
 
Must be able to plan work around complex and ever-changing deadlines. These deadlines are often passed down from Financial Shared Services, the Ohio State Racing Commission, Ohio Lottery Commission, and Internal and External Auditors.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of:
 
• a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• a minimum of two years background in accounting and experience with financial statement preparation
 
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc.):
 
• Ability to maintain all Regulatory licenses within assigned state of employment.
• Must successfully pass background check.
• Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening.
 
 
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
 
Knowledge of:
 
• Knowledge of general accounting procedures and related statutory requirements.
• Knowledge of financial systems, preferably Infinium.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organization skill
 
Ability to:
 
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, as well as outside contacts.
• Ability to review and comprehend all necessary documentation.
• Ability to use computer keyboard and 10-key.
• Ability to maintain high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality for the position.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
• Ability to perform mathematical and statistical calculations.
• Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
• This position operates in a working environment that is subject to varying levels of crowds, noise, and smoke-the severity of which depends upon customer volume.
