The Team & Role

Payments is a major area of ongoing investment at Zuora, with increasing impact on customer retention, expansion, and new revenue opportunities. As Senior Manager, Software Engineering for Payments, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for building and scaling highly reliable, low-latency, enterprise-grade payment systems that support Zuora’s global customer base.

This role sits at the intersection of business growth and technical innovation. Your work will directly enable revenue expansion by improving payment coverage, reliability, and customer cash flow outcomes, while also driving the adoption of modern technologies, including AI, to increase engineering efficiency and product innovation.

This is a location specific position that requires you to come into the office regularly to be most effective.

What you’ll do

• Lead and scale multiple Scrum teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready payment software on a predictable cadence.

• Drive the design and delivery of highly concurrent, low-latency, and resilient payment systems with strict SLA requirements.

• Provide technical and architectural leadership, challenging designs and promoting best engineering practices.

• Build, coach, and retain high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of ownership, learning, and innovation.

• You will deepen your expertise in large-scale payment systems, enterprise financial workflows, and global compliance requirements. You will also lead and learn from hands-on adoption of AI technologies to drive innovation in both product capabilities and engineering execution.

Your experience

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years leading multiple teams or managers.

• Strong background in building distributed, highly reliable systems, preferably in payments or financial domains.

• Proven ability to combine hands-on technical depth with people leadership and business impact.

• Experience driving quality, scalability, and operational excellence.

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and applying AI to real-world engineering or product problems.

Nice to haves:

• Experience with global payment gateways or financial platforms.

• Experience leading AI-driven productivity or platform initiatives.
