Position Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with strong HVAC equipment experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in industrial control panel design, building automation systems, and HVAC unit controls. This role offers the potential to progress into a Team Lead position, overseeing multiple employees and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design and update electrical wiring diagrams to achieve project-specific HVAC sequences of operation.
Develop and manage bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure accuracy in designs.
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to integrate system designs.
Lead process improvements between shop workers and designers to optimize efficiency.
Apply knowledge of HVAC air handlers, direct/indirect fired units, air conditioning systems (DX, chillers, evaporative), and make-up air units.
Write sequences of operation for HVAC units.
Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. codes and standards (CEC, NEC, NFPA70, UL 508A).
Provide technical support to electricians on the production floor.
Utilize AutoCAD at an intermediate level or higher.
Support projects with PLCs, HMIs, and operator interface controllers (Allen Bradley, Distech, Schneider).
Apply critical thinking to analyze designs, resolve challenges, and propose solutions.
Qualifications
HVAC equipment unit experience is a MUST – candidates without will not be considered.
Professional background as a Master/Journeyman Electrician or Electrical Engineer with HVAC specialization.
Hands-on experience designing industrial control panels (UL 508A knowledge required).
Strong understanding of building management systems (BMS/BAS) – asset.
Familiarity with electrical power, controls, pneumatics, and operational processes.
Programming exposure with PLC/HMI systems preferred.
Proficiency with AutoCAD (intermediate or higher).
Strong leadership and communication skills; proven ability to work independently and in teams.
Highly motivated, results-driven, and capable of taking initiative.
