Job Summary

Aretum is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Sr. FOIA Analyst to join our team. As a Sr. FOIA Analyst at Aretum, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program and ensuring compliance with FOIA regulations and guidelines. 

Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze FOIA requests to determine if they meet the requirements for processing

• Conduct research and gather information from various sources to support FOIA requests
• Prepare written responses to FOIA requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with FOIA regulations
• Coordinate with internal teams and subject matter experts to gather and review responsive documents
• Track and monitor FOIA requests, ensuring timely responses and adherence to established deadlines
• Provide guidance and training to staff regarding FOIA regulations, policies, and procedures
• Stay updated on changes in FOIA regulations and guidelines, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the FOIA program
• Manage and maintain FOIA tracking systems and databases

Requirements:
• 5 years of federal FOIA experience
• J.D.
• Ability to process FOIA requests from cradle-to-grave
• Experience reviewing large record sets and applying redactions to responsive records in accordance with the FOIA, and any applicable case law
• Experience drafting correspondence
• Experience managing FOIA admin files in accordance with office SOPs
• Experience preparing FOIA appeal packages for legal sufficiency review

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with FOIAXpress
• Experience working with OGC on FOIA appeals or FOIA litigation matters

Travel Requirements

This is a remote position; however, occasional travel may be required based on project needs, client meetings, team collaboration events, or training sessions. Travel is expected to be less than 10% and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
