Who will you be working with?
As a Sr. Data Operations Engineer on the Wabtec IT Data & Analytics (DnA) Team, you'll serve as a key member of the D&A Operations team. You'll collaborate closely with IT DNA Operations, Architects and scrum development teams.   
How will you make a difference?
We are seeking a collaborative and highly motivated Sr. Data Operations Engineer to extend our team's success and enhance customer experience through impactful Advanced Analytics & AI / Gen AI solutions. This hands-on position is responsible for DevOps support to provide technical expertise and lead a team of data operations contractors in maintaining our Data Lake platform, application support and maintenance operations. We expect this person to be self-motivated, a quick learner and who has worked on AWS & has experience of working with cloud platform hosting EMR / Bigdata / Hadoop distributed data environment. This role also supports efforts to create infrastructure to streamline development and deployment of applications using modern Cloud FinOps / DevOps practices.
As a Sr. Data Operations Engineer within the Wabtec IT Data & Analytics (DnA) Team, you will be responsible for:
• Maintain large scale production EMR clusters
• Well versed with AWS – EMR, S3, RDS, Bedrock and other AWS services and dashboards. Preferred - AWS certification for EMR cluster management
• Strong knowledge of AWS identity and access management, Kerberos for operations and debugging issues on platform
• Point of contact for EMR / Hadoop related issues coming from Application teams and internal clusters, responsible for troubleshooting and recommendation for Spark and Python / R jobs. Should be able to use existing logs to debug the issue
• Responsible for implementation and ongoing administration of Hadoop infrastructure including monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
• Improve scalability, service reliability, capacity, and performance of the cluster and applications running in the cluster
• Triage production issues when they occur with other operational teams
• Conduct ongoing maintenance across our large-scale deployments across the time zones and countries
• Write automation code for managing large Big Data clusters
• Identify ways to improve infra reliability, efficiency, and quality.
 
 
What do we want to know about you?
You must have:
The minimum qualifications for this role include:
• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or Engineering from an accredited college or university
• Overall 7+ Years of Professional experience in Information Technology with Platform Operations or DevOps or similar
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience working with cloud-based platforms in an enterprise environment with large scale Data hosting on Bigdata technologies or Data Lake process
• Strong Experience in Hadoop Administration - AWS EMR is preferred
• Strong Experience in Hadoop - HDFS, MapReduce, Yarn, Pig, Zookeeper.
• Strong Experience in Hadoop SQL tools - Hive and Presto
• any Scripting Knowledge - Shell, Python, groovy, terraform, ansible
• Strong Experience in Linux OS
• Experience on AWS services/network - Instances, Security Groups, Bootstrap actions, S3 Buckets, VPC/Subnet
• Strong Experience with Hadoop security and Governance - LDAP Integrations, Kerberos.
• Strong Performance tuning experience on Hive, Presto and MapReduce/Yarn.
• Strong Experience in monitoring, debugging, and troubleshooting services.
• Knowledge on Datadog, Grafana
• Familiarity or expertise with various tools & technologies include Python/ Spark / Scala / Sqoop & scalr, terraform, ansible, Jenkins, CICD, and S3/ Glue /EMR/ RedShift/ RDS/ Kinesis/ Elastic search, Bedrock etc is preferred

What will your typical day look like?
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams AI & data engineers, visualization, App developers, Architects, Operations team and contractors in daily meetings, Teams channels or on demand.
• Collaborate with extended operations team contractors to ensure platform stability and high availability, coordinating efforts to keep systems running smoothly and address any operational risks promptly.
• Monitor and validate recurring data refresh processes and application availability, ensuring timely execution of scheduled jobs and resolving failures to maintain business continuity.
• Perform and oversee scheduled maintenance activities (periodical), including patching, upgrades, and health checks, to ensure optimal performance and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to troubleshoot issues, manage incidents, implement preventive measures, maintain reliability and minimize downtime.
• Participate in DnA team communications and events, including contributing to newsletters and supporting product launch activities as needed
