From site selection to data center construction and operations, Stream develops wholesale colocation capacity and build-to-suit facilities for hyperscale and enterprise users in major markets across the United States. Additionally, Stream sources and develops low-risk land sites for optimum data center development and provides energy procurement services with a focus on reducing market risk and providing low-cost renewable energy options.
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Controls Engineer / Program Manager who would be responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of automation and control systems across complex engineering programs. This role combines deep technical expertise in controls engineering with strong program management capabilities to drive strategic automation initiatives from concept through commissioning. The ideal candidate is a technical leader who can manage cross-functional teams, interface with customers and stakeholders, and ensure project delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, stakeholders, and senior leadership to shape and implement innovative architecture strategies. Your leadership will drive the integration of both technical and program management expertise to ensure seamless delivery of architectural solutions.
The role reports directly to the Director of Product and maintains proactive, frequent and open communication.
Controls Engineering
• Lead the design and implementation of PLC, HMI, SCADA, robotics, and motion control systems.
• Develop control system architecture, functional specifications, I/O lists, and electrical schematics.
• Program, test, and debug PLCs (e.g., Siemens), HMIs, servo systems, and field devices.
• Support integration of industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA, etc.).
• Conduct system simulations, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure designs comply with electrical, safety, and industry standards (NFPA, UL, ISO, NEC).
• Provide expert troubleshooting of automation systems and mentor junior engineers.
Program & Project Management
• Serve as the technical lead and program manager for multi-phase automation projects.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and resource plans.
• Coordinate activities across engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and customers.
• Monitor milestones and deliverables, ensuring alignment with performance, quality, and safety requirements.
• Prepare and present project updates to leadership and stakeholders.
• Manage change control, scope adjustments, and contract requirements.
• Maintain documentation, test procedures, and compliance records throughout project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Leadership
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering teams.
• Guide teams through technical decision-making and system integration challenges.
• Support customer interactions, including requirements gathering, design reviews, and issue resolution.
• Promote continuous improvement, standardization, and best practices in automation design.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 7–12+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or industrial systems.
• Demonstrated experience managing large, complex engineering programs.
• Proficiency with PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.).
• Strong understanding of electrical design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
• Experience with robotics, motion control, machine vision, or SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of safety systems (SIL, safety PLCs, risk assessments).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing, robotics integration, automotive, or similar industries.
• Familiarity with IIoT, edge computing, or digital transformation initiatives.
• Ability to travel for customer site support and commissioning.

The pay range for this role is between $175,000-215,000 (base). Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related reasons. Stream Data Centers offers annual bonus, benefits, flexible time off (vacation), 401k and a variety of other perks and benefits.
