Job Description

Within the Digital Program at MSI IT, we’re passionate about building software that solves problems. We count on our Backend Development Lead (BDLs) to empower our users with a rich feature set, high availability, and stellar performance level to pursue their missions. As we expand our customer deployments, we are currently seeking a BDL to understand our IT systems and applications requirements and help build new applications or enhance existing applications. Specifically, we are searching for someone who brings fresh ideas, demonstrates a unique and informed viewpoint, and enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences at every interaction. As a BDL, you will be responsible for business and IT stakeholders interaction, requirements analysis, designing the systems, lead the development efforts and of the Digital Transformation platform & help us meet the business requirements, enrich the customer experience and satisfaction and improve the quality of the software applications.

Objectives of this Role:

• Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using Python for data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and loading across multiple systems.

• Build modular, reusable Python components/scripts to support large‑scale data processing and automation.

• Write and optimize Unix Shell scripts to orchestrate ETL workflows, manage file operations, and automate recurring data tasks.

• Configure and manage Cron Jobs for scheduling, monitoring, and ensuring timely execution of ETL processes using the tools like Cronicle.

• Design and optimize database tables, views, and stored procedures in PostgreSQL, Oracle, or Amazon RDS.

• Write efficient SQL queries, analyze execution plans, and perform performance tuning for high‑volume data operations.

• Develop custom data transformation scripts to parse structured/unstructured data, apply business rules, and validate data quality.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand data requirements, create source‑to‑target mappings, and implement transformation logic.

• Troubleshoot ETL failures, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement long‑term fixes to improve pipeline reliability.

• Ensure ETL best practices including incremental loads, error logging, audit trails, and data quality checks.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

• Partner with development teams to deliver the planned deliverables

• Meet with IT leaders to discuss project goals, solution quality, schedule and progress, and the overall client relationship.

• Estimate the work required to implement a module of a project.

• Test your work and review team members’ work and give constructive feedback on improvements.

• Serve as the technical expert on multiple active project initiatives.

• Assist in the creation of design documents and key artifacts for the project.

• Leverage internal tools, standards, and processes for the development work.

• Collaborate with peers and junior team members to debug code or resolve technical problems.

• Drive client satisfaction through repeated project delivery successes and strategic engagement.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor of engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics or Master of Computer Applications.

• Minimum 10-12 years of sound programming experience in Python, Unix Shell scripting, Cron Jobs, using various libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Requests, SQLAlchemy, Openpyxl, cryptography, hashlib, passlib, ssl, email, smtplib, etc.

• Extensive RDBMS database working knowledge (DML SQLs, Stored Procedures/Functions/Triggers development) using PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.

• Hands on experience on data transformation/integration scripting development

• Must have experience with using APIs, web Services (SOAP and RESTFUL), FTP/SFTP, flat files, non SQL data sources, etc.

• Exposure to communication services like SMTP, SMS, VoIP, etc.

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

• Can handle customer and Business teams

• Willing to work in onsite and offshore model. Should be able to lead and manage offshore teams.

• Must be familiar with various types of testing, defect prevention activities & Quality Management

• Well aware of CI/CD processes and having experience using DevOps tools like Bitbucket, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernets, Jira, Git, Confluence, version control, Automation tools, etc.

• Familiarity with AI technologies like GenAI, Agentic AI, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Should be able to manage work independently.
