SPORTS CAMP SUPERVISOR
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM MANAGER AND SUMMER CAMP COORDINATOR
GIVES DIRECTION TO: SPORTS CAMP COUNSELORS AND VOLUNTEERS
NATURE OF WORK
This seasonal position directs the recreational activities for children in grades 4 - 8. The camp runs for six weeks in the summer (June 15 to July 24), Monday – Friday from 9:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in Mt. Lebanon Park. Some activities are basketball, broomball, paddle tennis, table games, flag football, kickball, ultimate frisbee and soccer. This position also oversees the Lil' Sluggers Instructional T-Ball program for children ages 4 to 6. The Lil' Sluggers program runs for six weeks (June 16 - July 23) and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Mt. Lebanon Park. Work is performed with independent judgment under the general supervision of the Summer Camp Coordinator and the Program Manager.
This position is not eligible for paid sick time due to being a six week, seasonal position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Meets with staff to develop a daily plan for sports games and activities for children in the program.
Supervises camp counselors and volunteers in daily camp activities.
Divides children up into age-appropriate groups and assigns them to a camp counselor.
Records daily attendance for campers.
Documents staff and volunteer hours daily.
Communicates with parents daily at check-in and dismissal.
Completes Incident and/or Accident Reports when necessary. Responds to emergency situations in a timely manner.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs all other work as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Clear understanding of recreational department activities and procedures.
Interpersonal skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Experience with organizing youth programs and special events is preferred.
Display a knowledge of CPR and First-Aid.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand: walk, bend, stoop; use hands to handle or feel equipment and supplies. The employee will need to be able to stand for long periods of time, up to 3 hours. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight, and verbal communications to record, prepare and communicate to parents, coaches, and the general public.
