POSITION OVERVIEW

KIPP Chicago is looking for a dynamic and dedicated speech-language pathologist (SLP) to become part of a vibrant educational community.  The speech-language pathologist is specially trained to help students with communication disorders succeed academically and socially.  The SLP is a vital member of the evaluation and IEP team. This individual not only works with students requiring speech and language services, but also acts as an educator by helping general education teachers understand more about speech and language development.

The Speech-Language Pathologist, under the leadership of the Managing Director of Related Service Providers and the lead SLP in collaboration with case managers, teachers and other related service providers, will use effective strategies to serve the needs of students.  The School Psychologist position is a full-time, in-person role that requires strong daily attendance on campus daily.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide therapeutic services to eligible students using a continuum of service delivery models.

• Provide diagnostic assessment services to students using the established eligibility and exit criteria.

• Develop and implement IEPs utilizing an educationally based model with goals aligned to educational standards.

• Participate in required domain, eligibility and annual IEP review meetings as needed.

• Conduct screeners and observations as needed to students with speech and language concerns.

• Determine the need for students to receive tier 1, 2,  or 3 MTSS and monitor progress to determine student’s need for a referral.

• Assist in referral of students with speech and language needs as appropriate.

• Program and utilize augmentative/alternative communication systems.

• Attend regional and departmental meetings.

• Complete compliance activities including daily progress notes, and quarterly reports of student achievement (IEP report cards) 

• Provide consultation to classroom teachers, support staff, parents and other KIPP personnel for intervention strategies to meet speech and language IEP goals.

• Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to support students in general education classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff,Support and facilitate professional development activities and objectives for general education staff and school administrators as needed.

• Counsel students, parents and other professional and paraprofessional personnel regarding the social and educational needs of the students within the speech and language programs.

• Consult with community agencies, medical personnel, parents, and other professionals, acting as a liaison among these groups for children with communication disorders.

• Keep computerized IEP records and all other records pertinent to the special education program for the state reports and program accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or audiology (required)

• ASHA certification and IDFPR license (required)

• ISBE Professional Educator License with Speech-Language Pathologist endorsement or ISBE Type 73 license with Speech-Language Pathology endorsement (required)

• Knowledge of federal and state special education law and best practices for special education (required)

• Minimum two years of experience (preferred)

• Experience working in an urban, public school setting is (preferred)

• Bilingual English-Spanish Specialization Certification (preferred)

• Unquestioned ethics, integrity, and commitment to the KIPP Chicago mission and willingness to serve the KIPP Chicago community

• Ability to work in-person on campus daily, with strong on-time attendance (required)

• Cleared CPS Background Check and Faith’s Law Attestation (required)
