JOB SUMMARY

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is a patient facing position that assists patients with navigating issues associated with prior authorization, benefits investigations, and refill coordination. Reconciles patient medications and reviews interactions according to Standard Operating Procedures and policies. Follows-up with families to coordinate patient needs, process refills and deliveries. Maintains specialty medication inventory and storage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Assists patients who are utilizing the Specialty Pharmacy in obtaining medications.

* Identifies refill gaps in medication plans and follow up with patients.

* Coordinates medication delivery to patients' bedside, home, or physicians' office.

* Maintains medication inventory, places and receives stock replacement orders.

* Performs non-sterile compounding duties of pharmacy technicians as required under the supervision of a pharmacist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Six (6) months of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

License/Certification:

• Intern Pharmacist by California Board of Pharmacy
• or
• Pharmacy Technician by California Board of Pharmacy

*Assists Purchasing Receiving Technician in all RX duties and office maintenance.

*Interface & Opp as necessary for patient's prescriptions and shipping.

*Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

*Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.

*Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

*Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states.

*Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.

*Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $40.85 to $45.83
