We are looking for a Spaceport & Commercial Launchers Safety Advisor to complete our consultants Workforce Management Service to support the Operational Launch System Safety Office of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in Frascati, Italy.
The purpose of the Safety Operational Office for Flight Programmes is to support Launcher and launch Systems development and interfacing with other Space Transportation (STS) Departments and ESA Directorates on demand.
As a Spaceport & Commercial Launchers Safety Advisor, you will support ESA’s involvement in the evolution of European spaceports and the emergence of new commercial launch providers. Your work will contribute to safety assessments, regulatory development, and training of Member States preparing for launch licensing.
The selected candidate may additionally be appointed to the role of Service Manager, subject to relevant experience and operational needs.
Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at the interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:
Tasks and Responsibilities
Launch Range & Spaceport Evolution
• Conduct safety analyses supporting the optimisation of CSG launch range availability, procedures, and tools.
• Assess feasibility of new installations, launch pads, EPCU evolutions, and infrastructure decommissioning, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.
• Contribute to ESAFrance safety arrangements and interface on evolving regulations.
Assessment of New Launch Providers
• Support safety assessments of microlaunchers, minilaunchers, and new commercial operators seeking access to the European Spaceport.
• Conduct preliminary feasibility studies for future facilities and operations, considering pyrotechnic, environmental, and flight safety impacts.
Support to Member States – Licensing Advisory
• Provide technical support to Member States on their licensing process, including:
• Flight mission analysis
• Launch system qualification status
• Production and quality processes
• Flight safety with/without FTS
• Quantitative casualty risk analysis
• Launch authorization dossier completeness
• Evaluate the “receivability” of license submissions and ensure alignment with EU and ESA safety expectations.
Training, Workshops & Regulatory Support
• Prepare training materials and safety workshops for government authorities.
• Support EUlevel exchanges on the upcoming EU Space Law, identifying impacts on safety frameworks and ESA programmes.
• Represent ESA in technical meetings, regulatory consultations, and qualification reviews.
