Sleep Medicine Physician (Somnologist) – MD/DO
Position Summary
The Sleep Medicine Physician (Somnologist) provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of sleep disorders in adult and/or pediatric patients. This role focuses on improving patient health and quality of life through evidence-based treatment of sleep-related conditions, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and oversight of sleep diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate and diagnose sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, hypersomnia, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, and restless leg syndrome
• Interpret sleep studies, including polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), and multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT)
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including CPAP/BiPAP therapy, oral appliances, behavioral therapy, and pharmacologic management
• Provide outpatient clinic consultations and follow-up care
• Collaborate with pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, ENT, and primary care providers as needed
• Educate patients and families on sleep health, treatment options, and therapy adherence
• Supervise and collaborate with sleep technologists and allied health staff
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards
Qualifications
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, or Pediatrics)
• Completion of an accredited Sleep Medicine fellowship
• Board eligible or board certified in Sleep Medicine
• Active or eligible state medical license
• DEA registration or eligibility
