Software Engineering Manager - Retail Experience

The Toast Retail team is pioneering how Toast serves businesses beyond the restaurant space. We’re focused on building powerful, intuitive tools that meet the unique needs of modern retailers — inventory management, supplier relationships, purchase orders, and more. As a team, we operate like a startup within Toast, balancing greenfield development with the scale of a mature platform. The Retail Experience (RXP) squad is a high-impact team focused on transforming Toast into a world-class experience for retailers. While retail adoption has grown significantly, we consistently hear that Toast doesn’t always feel like it was built for retail. RXP’s mission is to close that gap. We identify friction across the retail customer journey — from onboarding to daily operations — and deliver cohesive, retail-first improvements across Toast’s ecosystem.

Our work spans the Retail module and the broader Toast platform, ensuring that retail customers feel understood and supported from day one through long-term success.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

As an Engineering Manager on the Retail Experience team, you’ll play a leading role in designing and developing intuitive, performant, and delightful user experiences. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to bring new features to life. And you’ll play a leading role in organizing, strategizing, and prioritizing the team’s work. • Drive delivery of business outcomes, including planning and execution

• Collaborate closely with PM and UX to define actionable, valuable work for the team

• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to help your teams accomplish their goals

• Oversee end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issues

• Guide the team’s quality and testing strategy

• Coach engineers for professional and technical development

• Recruit and onboard new team members

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• Experience managing engineering teams

• Experience writing, delivering, and operating software in a SaaS environment

• Experience mentoring and developing successful teams

• Experience deeply collaborating with PM and UX partners

• Strong technical background that you use to guide your team’s decisions and plans

• Comfortable working in a fast-moving team, balancing quality and speed

• A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success

• Bonus: Experience in Retail software, or designing systems for new customer verticals.

**This role requires you to work two days per week in the Dublin office**
