Job title: Software Engineer Work Location: Bangalore Shift timings: 8.00am to 5.00pm or 12.00pm to 9.00pm Work model: Hybrid model 3days office in a week Experience : 3-5 years Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Core Technical Skills SSRS Development Design, deploy, and manage SSRS reports including tabular, matrix, chart, drill-down, and drill-through types. Skilled with Report Builder and SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). Experienced in parameterized reports, subreports, linked reports, custom expressions, and report subscriptions. Proficient in writing custom functions using Visual Basic .NET ( VB.NET ) within SSRS. Strong knowledge of XML and JSON formats for report data sources. Programming and Integration Skills Basic knowledge of C# or other .NET technologies for custom code, integration, and advanced logic in SSRS reports. Experience working with XML and JSON for data parsing and integration with SQL Server and .NET systems. Proficient in Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) for writing custom SSRS functions and enhancing report logic. SQL Proficiency Strong T-SQL skills, including the ability to write complex queries using joins, CTEs, and window functions. Experience writing stored procedures, views, and functions to be used as data sources for SSRS reports. Understanding of query performance tuning and optimization. Data Modeling and Database Design Understanding of relational database design and normalization principles. Familiarity with dimensional modeling such as star and snowflake schemas, especially in reporting and data warehousing contexts. SSIS and ETL Basics Basic knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and ETL processes. While not mandatory, this knowledge supports understanding data pipelines and transformations behind reporting systems. Report Performance Tuning Experience optimizing SSRS report performance, handling large datasets, and using features such as caching, snapshots, pagination, and filtering for better performance. Analytical and Business Skills Business Requirements Gathering Ability to work with stakeholders to understand business needs, KPIs, and translate them into actionable reporting specifications. Data Analysis and Validation Strong skills in validating report data accuracy against source systems. Awareness of data consistency, data quality checks, and reconciliations. Complementary and Advanced Skills Power BI or Other BI Tools Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or Excel PowerPivot. Not required but useful for hybrid reporting environments. SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) Exposure to multidimensional or tabular data models. Familiarity with MDX or DAX is an advantage, especially for integrating with SSRS or Power BI. Security and Permissions Understanding of report-level and row-level security. Experience managing access controls using roles or integrated Windows security. DevOps, Lifecycle, and Tools Version Control Familiarity with Git, TFS, or other version control systems for managing report definitions and related code. Deployment and Automation Experience with automated SSRS deployment techniques, environment setup, and configuration management Soft Skills Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail. Good verbal and written communication, especially for documenting reports and communicating with business users.
