Join Vultr
Vultr is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to lead and grow the teams powering the core identity, billing, and administration capabilities of our global cloud platform. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader with deep PHP and large-scale backend expertise who thrives guiding senior engineers without losing touch with the code. This is a highly visible role in a high-growth technology company, which will require strong organizational instincts, the ability to navigate a mature monolithic codebase while driving modernization, and the leadership presence to align execution across multiple product teams. This is your opportunity to own the systems that every Vultr customer touches and leave a lasting mark on the future of cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a distributed team of 8+ engineers across Identity Management, Payments & Billing, and Internal Admin Platform; spanning junior to senior-level talent
• Drive engineering execution: sprint planning, technical prioritization, and delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams
• Engage deeply with the PHP monolith; code reviewing, architectural decision-making, and guiding incremental modernization without disrupting production systems
• Build and maintain a high-performance team culture through 1:1s, career development, and structured feedback loops
• Partner closely with product, design, and adjacent engineering leadership to align on roadmap priorities and technical strategy
• Develop team processes that balance velocity, quality, and operational stability at scale
• Own hiring and headcount planning for your teams, including defining roles and evaluating candidates
• Perform technical risk assessments and guide teams through complex system changes; including IAM/SCIM integrations, billing infrastructure, and account lifecycle work
Qualifications
• 5+ years of hands-on PHP development experience, including fluency with large-scale monolithic applications
• 3+ years of engineering management experience, with a track record of developing engineers and delivering complex projects
• Strong working knowledge of MySQL, query optimization, and data modeling at scale
• Experience with identity, authentication, or billing systems: IAM, OAuth, SSO, or subscription/payment platforms a strong plus
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams through architectural evolution without disrupting reliability
• Comfortable operating in a high-ownership, low-process engineering culture where context matters more than ceremony
• Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical complexity to stakeholders and business priorities to engineers
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Compensation
$140,000 - $155,000
Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.
