About the Team:

We're looking for engineers who have strong opinions but hold them loosely, can give direct feedback constructively, and believe in raising the bar for the entire team. We are seeking an experienced backend engineer to join our expanding team and contribute to the development of our applications. This role offers the chance to architect solutions, drive technical decisions, and work on a product serving hundreds of thousands of users.

What you will do:

• Design and build scalable services using our Node.js/TypeScript stack

• Collaborate closely with design and product managers to define, architect, and ship new features

• Establish engineering best practices, code standards, and development processes

• Conduct thorough code reviews, provide mentorship to team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

• Draft technical design documents & spearhead major initiatives

Responsibilities:

• Build strong, resilient, and robust APIs, libraries, and services to power our Growth and Web experiences

• Build and maintain backend services that integrate with our microservices architecture

• Own functionality and scalability features by taking responsibility from inception to deployment and customer integration

• Expose and document functionality to the UI, third-party developers, and our tooling

• Improve internal workflows by adding tooling to make it easier to develop and experiment

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure consistency in understanding of technical requirements and overall work quality

• Provide mentorship to your peers in the broader engineering team through code reviews and education on best practices

• Coordinate with globally distributed teammates

Skills & Experience:

Required:

• At least 3+ years of back-end, server-side software development

• Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB

• Strong experience with RESTful API design

• Great at algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis

• Experience in Git/GitHub and branching methodologies, code review tools, CI tools, JIRA, Confluence, etc.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or another technical discipline

Preferred:

• Understanding and strong interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain industry

• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka)

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker

• Experience working in startup or high-growth environments

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending upon your leveling and location, the compensation for this role averages between $160,000 - 200,000 CAD base salary. Equity, an annual performance bonus and the benefits outlined below are also a part of this role's package.
