Reporting to: Development Team Lead

Location: Office based in Portsmouth, Remote Work (3-4 days onsite a month)

Role breakdown

We have a clear programme of significant development upgrades over the next 12 months. You will work both paired and solo to deliver these upgrades according to an agreed schedule.

System analysis and recommendations:

As part of your role, you should make time to take a step back and review how the system is built and hosted and how well it is performing against the desired outputs required from it. Recommendations for improvements are always welcome.

Responsibilities

• Working as part of the Technical Delivery team
• Being immersed in the code base and how the system is used to ensure a full understanding of the entire infrastructure and functionality
• Our system has good test coverage, though not 100%. You (as a team) will use your judgement to decide when you should provide test coverage and when it is ok not to
• To continuously improve the application through regular and effective support and maintenance
• Architect and implement (working both paired and solo) new features on the application. Some of these projects could last a few days, others will last several months
• Applying your development skills to a variety of different technologies – some of which may be new to you, some of which may be new to other team members
• To ensure that processes for developing, testing and deploying new functionality are consistently followed

Technical requirements

The environment is currently: Rails 5 / Cucumber / Rspec / Postgres / HTML / Javascript / API (Grape) / Bootstrap 3 + 4 /

The server environment is: Ubuntu / Ansible / Apache / Nginx / Postfix (email) / Postgresql

Package

Salary: dependent on experience

Contract: 12 Months
