Software Developer (IntelliJ Platform)

JetBrains offers multiple IDEs that are used by millions of customers. These IDEs are built on top of the IntelliJ Platform – our homegrown framework for building desktop applications suitable for coding.

The IntelliJ Platform Team is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the fundamental blocks of all JetBrains' IDEs. The team's problems include risk evaluation and the implementation of new approaches, API design, performance improvements, and close collaboration with product teams and external clients.

We are currently looking for a Software Developer to join the team responsible for the Threading Model of the IntelliJ Platform. The design of the Threading Model influences all aspects of the IntelliJ Platform – including the shape of APIs and the possibility of internal performance improvements. The choices made in the Threading Model also affect the responsiveness of all IDEs and the extensibility of the IntelliJ Platform.

Tasks we deal with on a daily basis include:

• Improving the performance of IDE components.

• Designing novel solutions that accommodate backward compatibility and permit new features.

• Aiding large audiences in migrating their code due to internal contract changes.

• Refactoring our systems.

We’ll be happy to have you on our team if you:

• Have experience working with concurrency and multithreaded programming in any language.

• Have a research-oriented mindset.

• Are an excellent team player, communicate well with colleagues, ask questions when anything is unclear, and support your opinions with sound reasoning while respecting others’ points of view.

• Can design and write code that is easy to read and maintain.

We’ll be especially thrilled if you:

• Have experience coding in Kotlin and Kotlin Coroutines.

• Are comfortable taking on tasks that don’t have clear requirements.

• Can combine working on routine tasks with creative thinking, such as analyzing incoming information, clarifying details, and suggesting alternative solutions to solve a given problem.

• Are willing to work with unfamiliar codebases.
