About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We are looking for a Software Developer to join the Systems Development team and play a key role in supporting and enhancing our laboratory systems. Reporting to the IT Manager, this position focuses on the development, integration, and support of the Lab Solutions Anatomical Pathology application, which underpins diagnostic workflows and clinical decision-making, including cancer diagnosis.
You will use strong software development skills to maintain and improve a complex, business-critical system. Experience in Delphi or C# and solid knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query optimisation, and data integrity, is essential. The role also involves collaborating with pathologists, laboratory staff, IT colleagues, and management to solve technical problems, ensure system reliability, and support integration across organisational systems.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 80 hours per fortnight and can be based in Christchurch, Wellington, or Auckland.
Key Responsibilities:
Software Development: Design, develop, and implement new features and functionality for the Lab Solutions Anatomical Pathology application. Provide third-level support and troubleshoot complex system issues.
Change Management and Quality: Participate in change management processes, ensuring all system changes are tested, validated, and documented. Contribute to quality control programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
System Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor application performance and data integrity, resolving issues and identifying opportunities to enhance workflows and reporting.
Collaboration: Work closely with laboratory staff, pathologists, IT colleagues, and external vendors to maintain system reliability and support integration across the organisation.
Privacy, Security, and Safety: Adhere to company policies on privacy, security, and occupational health and safety, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Results
Timely delivery of new system features and functionality that meet user requirements.
Minimal system downtime and rapid resolution of critical defects.
Compliance with change management, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Improved workflow efficiency and reliability for laboratory operations.
Positive feedback from laboratory staff and IT teams on system performance and usability.

You’ll be a proactive and results-driven software developer who enjoys delivering high-quality, reliable systems and working collaboratively with stakeholders. You bring strong technical skills, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a focus on data integrity to support critical laboratory operations.
Proven experience in software development, ideally with complex or business-critical applications.
Strong skills in Delphi or C# and database design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
Experience working with critical data and maintaining high quality and accuracy.
Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
Customer-focused, collaborative, and able to work effectively across teams.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with software trends.
Experience or strong interest in healthcare or laboratory systems.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
