Job Title: SMSF Accountant

We're looking for an SMSF Accountant to take ownership of Self-Managed Superannuation Fund preparation and compliance work for our Australian accounting practice. You'll prepare financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules for a portfolio of SMSF clients, ensuring full compliance with Australian SMSF regulations. This role involves working closely with our onshore partners to deliver review-ready work, support advisory discussions with accurate documentation, and respond to SMSF-specific client queries. You'll be responsible for maintaining organised, audit-ready files, managing workflow documentation in Carbon, and delivering accurate compliance work that meets strict regulatory standards. This is a strategic hire designed to remove a specialist bottleneck and enable the firm to scale its SMSF offering without increasing onshore partner workload.

Requirements:
• 2-4+ years of hands-on SMSF preparation experience in an Australian accounting practice
• Strong practical knowledge of Australian SMSF legislation, compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks
• Proven ability to prepare SMSF financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules to review-ready standard
• Experience working with SMSF clients across different fund structures and complexity levels
• High attention to detail with demonstrated track record of zero critical compliance errors
• Excellent judgement in identifying SMSF risks and knowing when to escalate technical issues
• Strong written English communication skills for client correspondence and documentation
• Proficiency in SMSF-specific software and practice management systems (Carbon experience advantageous)
• Self-motivated work approach with ability to manage multiple SMSF files and competing deadlines
• Experience working remotely with strong organisational capabilities and documentation discipline
• Comfortable supporting partner-led advisory work with confidence and professionalism
• Proactive communicator who presents solutions and reduces review iterations
