Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is looking for someone to join our supervisory team as a Shift Supervisor at the Nova Institute.
The Supervisor is responsible to the CNS Northern District Manager and plays a key role in the operational success of our Nova Institute contract; responsible for leading our people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client. This includes the overall leadership and supervision of personnel, the administrative management of the site, discipline, morale, dress and deportment, client communications and contract delivery. The successful candidate will deliver operational support to our client 24/7, and will be a key part of the success of this longstanding and valued contract.

THE ROLE
Position: Security Supervisor
Competition Number: CNS 2026-02-20
Reports to: Northern District Manager
Responsible For: Supervision, coaching, and administration of shift personnel
Working Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday (subject to change - there may be operational requirements that require flexible hours during the week and weekends)

Duties and Responsibilities:
While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
Access Control/Monitoring of CCTV
Daily review of various reports and advise Nova Scotia Power Staff
Completing administrative duties as required
Implement shift scheduling, and complete shift reports as required
Recording/documentation of commercial vehicle weights of coal, entering/leaving of site
Prepare and review all shift schedules adapting changes as required
Coordinate and audit all required site-specific training
Ensure monthly Operational Health & Safety reports are completed and submitted
Ensure SWI’s (Site Work Instructions), dress standards, and safety equipment regulations are adhered to
Investigate and correct any Complaints as directed by Nova Scotia Plant Manager/Coal Supervisor
Administrative control of records, incidents, and security infraction reports
Conduct a patrols/visual check of Plant Areas for breaches of security and/or maintenance issues and safety hazards.
Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of communication, including all Incident Report
Work with internal stakeholders to fill any outstanding site staffing requirements
Keeping the District Manager, client and other stakeholders apprised of all events and incidents as applicable
Provide direction, assistance and leadership during emergencies
Ensuring the appropriate level of staffing is met, for CNS to meet the service level requirements of our contract
Managing the site cost centre for staffing, overtime and equipment
Positively and effectively coach, motivate, discipline and provide feedback when necessary
Provide direction, assistance and leadership during emergencies
Supervising training of new Commissionaires
Managing all security clearances for new employees
Additional Responsibilities:
Managing staff briefings for daily shift changes
Preparing reports relating to personnel management issues
Manage security and safety of personnel visits by maintenance staff and contractors
Being a highly active/visible champion for workplace health and safety
Candidates must:
Be aged 19 or older.
Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Qualifications and Skills
The incumbent must demonstrate experience with the following key qualifications, skills, and attributes:
Be qualified in, or have the ability to pass, CNS advanced leadership/management training courses (CSC 1 and 2
Comfortable in use of computers in Microsoft suite
Possess excellent customer and client service skills.
Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgement and decision making during emergency or high stress situations.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations.
Highly professional and discreet
Excellent coaching, negotiating, and mentoring abilities
Experience in On-Watch application considered an asset
