Job Description

Are you a technical expert in military training and simulation, passionate about shaping the future of the industry? Do you thrive on translating complex customer needs into robust, standards-based technical solutions? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you.

We are the leading experts in defence modelling and simulation standards. We partner with the UK MOD and industry leaders to provide critical advice, develop future standards, and ensure the UK’s simulation capabilities are interoperable and effective. Our team is a small, agile group of specialists who are passionate about solving the industry's toughest challenges.

The Opportunity

As a Systems Architect you will act as the main technical focal point (or project engineer) for one of the key defence training and simulation programmes of the UK MOD. Day to day, you will be working closely with the MOD customer and our UK team for the provision of technical consultancy and services towards achieving the customer’s programme objectives in full.

You will leverage your military training and simulation expertise and experience to support the customer in establishing a robust technical governance framework for system testing and verification, as well as facilitating technical engagement with various stakeholders and organisations within the UK and overseas, and ultimately providing decision support towards one of the most complex and transformative training and simulation programmes of the UK MOD. The role will include regular work at the customer’s site for two to three days a week (Salisbury area).

Your work will directly influence major UK defence programmes. You will:

Design and Champion Solutions: Architecting M&S solutions for our customers, leveraging open standards (like HLA, DIS) and modern architectural frameworks

Provide Expert Consultancy: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing robust decision support and technical guidance on complex simulation and training programmes.

Drive Technical Excellence: Ensure the correct application of M&S standards, facilitate technical workshops with diverse stakeholders, and mentor others in best practice.

Shape the Future: Contribute to the evolution of the next generation of simulation standards for the UK and globally.

Oversee Delivery: Act as the project's technical lead, working closely with engineering teams to ensure your architectural vision is successfully delivered.

About You – What you’ll bring to the role

We are looking for a proactive and experienced professional who combines deep technical knowledge with excellent leadership and communication skills.

Essential Experience and Skills:

A strong background (5+ years) in the development, architecture, or delivery of simulation-based training systems for defence.

Master or Bachelor of Computer Science or equivalent engineering qualification.

Proven experience applying the Systems Engineering lifecycle on projects.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.

You must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC or higher).

Desirable Skills:

Solid appreciation of the land training domain and defence modelling and simulation standards

Understanding and practical experience with key interoperability standards used in Defence modelling and simulation (e.g., HLA, DIS and other SISO & NATO standards)

Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools and languages like SysML or Unified Architecture Framework.

Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, ArchiMate).

While this position is open to mid-level candidates, we also strongly encourage applicants with senior-level experience to apply, as your depth of expertise will be highly valued.

Commercial awareness of the UK defence simulation and training market.

What we offer: The benefits of joining us

Competitive salary and attractive benefits package, including 25 days annual leave, company matched pension scheme and life insurance.

Flexible Working: We understand the importance of work-life balance and offer flexible working patterns and options for partial remote work.

Growth Opportunities: This role offers excellent prospects for individual professional development within the newly created OneArc organisation.

Meaningful Work: The opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of nationally significant projects that have a real impact.

A Culture of Ownership: An inclusive and supportive environment, where your ideas aren’t just welcomed - they’re expected.
