Job Description
Indoor Positioning System Installer at U.S. Trade Show
Sherpa is hiring on-site installers for short-term contracts at major U.S. trade shows. Events take place throughout the year in cities like Las Vegas, Orlando, Chicago, San Diego, and New York. You'll help our team of 5 deploy our indoor positioning system before the show opens and dismantle it after it closes — with free days in the host city in between.
The work, concretely
Imagine hanging hundreds of small picture frames on walls across a convention center. That's essentially the job: mounting small transmitters (about 0.5" × 1" × 3") at precise locations marked on a floor plan, at heights of 2 to 2.5 metres (6.5 to 8 feet), using 3M hanging strips or zip ties. A good pair of shoes, a show floor map, a basket of beacons and hanging strips, and a 2-step ladder are all you need. You'll then help calibrate the system. Training is provided on-site — no prior experience with our system required.
The catch: everything must be installed and calibrated before the show opens, which means working a crowded convention floor alongside the booth installers. Expect noise, tight deadlines, and a lot of shared space and camaraderie.
What to expect
Approximately 8–10 days total, including travel from Montréal
Installation and calibration before the show; dismantling after
Free days during the show itself (remain reachable by phone)
Variable hours: shifts may run from 6:00 AM to as late as 4:00 AM, capped at 10 consecutive hours
Endurance, not strength
This job is about stamina. The transmitters are small, the ladder is short, and nothing is heavy or dangerous.
But you'll be doing the same kind of motion — reach up, stick, check, next spot — for 10 hours at a time. If you can stay on your feet all day and keep a steady pace, you'll do fine. If long repetitive days wear you down quickly, this contract isn't for you.
What we cover
Everything on the work side: flights, hotel, travel insurance, work-related ground transport, hourly pay (day/night differential), travel day compensation, and daily per diem.
Flexible return date
Want to stay longer for tourism after the contract ends? We're happy to book a later return flight; however, any additional costs are at your own expense.
Requirements
Fluent English is mandatory.
French is an asset but not required.
Valid passport and eligibility to enter the United States without a VISA
Able to sustain long days of light but repetitive work
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow a structured methodology.
Professional appearance and courteous manner on-site.
U.S. entry
Entering the United States is a condition of this contract. Candidates are responsible for confirming their own admissibility at the U.S. border. Sherpa cannot be held responsible for a denial of entry, and a candidate unable to cross the border cannot be retained for this assignment.
