JOB SUMMARY
The Shift Leader (Mill Operator) is responsible for the physical production of feed and support services while serving as the primary authority on shift. This role ensures that machinery is operated at peak efficiency, feed quality is maintained, and the "Zero-Tolerance" policies for safety and sanitation are enforced without exception.
Duties and Responsibilities
Pelletizing Process Operation:
Act as lead to operate and monitor pelleting machinery to produce feed pellets according to specifications.
Adjust machine settings, including temperature, pressure, and feed rate, to ensure optimal pellet quality and production efficiency.
Ensure that pellet production parameters meet quality, nutrition, volume and other key performance indicators (KPIs) and standards.
Machinery Maintenance and Adjustment:
Perform routine checks on the pelletizer and associated equipment.
Make real-time adjustments to the pelletizer to maintain efficiency and product quality.
Collaborate with maintenance teams for necessary repairs and improvements.
Participate in machinery maintenance and repairs as assigned during routine operations and maintenance periods.
Quality Control:
Monitor pellet quality, including size, density, and moisture content.
Conduct routine checks and tests to ensure products meet quality standards.
Identify and report any quality issues promptly.
Routine Inspections and Troubleshooting:
Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment.
Identify and troubleshoot operational issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Perform preventive maintenance tasks and communicate any abnormalities to relevant teams.
Safety and Quality Standards:
Ensure full compliance of established safety protocols and procedures for staff and contractors on site.
Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of safety within the production team.
Conduct the mandatory "Clean Handshake" walk-through with the incoming Shift Leader
Collaboration with Team Members:
Collaborate with other team members to optimize feed mill processes.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, including operators, maintenance personnel, and management.
Contribute insights and suggestions for continuous improvement initiatives.
Any other duties assigned by the Operations Manager or his designate.
Requirements:
Previous Experience:
Proven experience in manufacturing, feed mill operations or a similar industrial setting.
Experience operating pelletizing machinery is preferred.
Familiarity with the specific processes and challenges of operating machinery in a feed mill.
Knowledge of Production Processes and Machinery:
Understanding of feed production processes, particularly pelletting.
Knowledge of pelletizing machinery and its functions.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail in monitoring and adjusting machinery.
Ability to identify subtle changes in equipment performance and take corrective actions.
Ability to Work in a Team:
Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Willingness to cross-train and support other team members as needed.
Strong Communication Skills:
Clear and concise communication skills to convey information to team members and management.
Ability to report issues, provide updates, and contribute to team discussions.
