Shepherd - Agriculture

Apt Resources is excited to offer a unique opportunity for a dedicated Shepherd to join a prominent agricultural operation in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of livestock management, particularly sheep, and demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare. This role requires a hands-on approach to shepherding, ensuring the health and productivity of the flock while developing effective management strategies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the daily care of sheep flocks, including feeding, watering, and monitoring health and behavior.
• Implement breeding programs and manage the reproduction process for optimal herd growth.
• Regularly inspect animals for signs of illness or distress and coordinate veterinary care as necessary.
• Manage grazing and pasture land to ensure sustainable feeding practices.
• Shepherd sheep during grazing, ensuring they are safe from predators and adverse weather conditions.
• Maintain accurate records of herd numbers, breeding, and health status.
• Work closely with farm management to develop and implement flock management strategies.
• Train and supervise farm staff on proper animal handling, welfare practices, and safety measures.
• Ensure compliance with local agriculture regulations and standards for animal welfare.
• Maintain equipment and facilities related to livestock management.
• Participate in the planning and execution of farm operations to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Requirements:
• Proven experience in sheep husbandry or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years in shepherding.
• A deep understanding of animal husbandry practices, particularly for sheep, and knowledge of relevant health and nutrition requirements.
• Ability to identify health issues in livestock and implement proper treatment.
• Strong communications skills to effectively coordinate with farm management and team members.
• Physical stamina to handle the demands of outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
• Knowledge of grazing management and pasture sustainability practices.
• Experience with equipment maintenance and basic veterinary care is a plus.
• A commitment to upholding high standards of animal welfare.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.

Benefits:
