Job Title: Sheet Metal CNC Operator (Fabrication)
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $18.00 – $24.00/hour (based on experience and interview evaluation)
Available Shifts:
1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
3rd Shift: Sunday–Thursday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Position Overview
This role supports a metal fabrication environment, operating CNC equipment to produce high-quality sheet metal components. The position involves hands-on machine operation, quality checks, and material handling while maintaining efficiency and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Operate CNC machinery to bend and form sheet metal components
• Use automated equipment to install hardware into metal parts
• Perform spot welding to assemble metal components
• Set up, clean, and maintain tooling and work areas
• Inspect finished parts to verify dimensional accuracy
• Maximize production output while maintaining quality standards
• Handle materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual methods
• Count, organize, and stack completed products
• Remove burrs and sharp edges from finished parts
• Monitor product quality throughout the production process
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues
• Follow all workplace procedures, safety guidelines, and instructions
• Complete additional tasks as assigned
Basic Requirements:
• Comfortable using computers to operate production equipment
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and attendance record
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
• Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs
• Able to follow both written and verbal instructions
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience operating or setting up CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment
• Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Familiarity with measuring tools such as calipers and other precision instruments
