This role is based at Tumela Mine Thabazimbi, South Africa

The Shaft Surveyor is responsible for managing the specialist Survey and services and expertise at a Shaft. The work focus timeframe is 1 to 5 years, but some plans may have a longer timeframe. In terms of the MSHA it is a 17.2 appointment

Roles and responsibilities include the below:

• Managing the Activities of the Survey and Evaluation Teams
• Planning monthly Survey and Evaluation requirement and priorities
• Compiling Survey and Evaluation plans
• Supervising the Survey Team
• Compiling, designing and reports and plans appropriate to the Surveying function
• Implementing effective controls & procedures
• Supervising the measurement of underground production performance
• Establishing on-Mine Survey Standards
• Coordinating Effective Usage of Equipment
• Implementing measurements and planning system
• Supervising legal compliance to procedures and standards
• Achieving legal compliance (Survey)
• Maintaining MPRDA survey legal compliance
• Issuing survey instructions and notifications
• Maintaining DMR plans
• Monthly reporting according to standard
• Preparing mine plans (Survey)
• Ensuring Availability of electronic production Survey plans
• Maintaining electronic Survey plans
• Measuring underground excavations
• Summarizing and reporting of measurement information

This role is at a Band 6/11 level reporting to the Chief Surveyor

• Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competency
• Advantageous: National Higher Diploma or Btech, Graduate Diploma in Engineering

Experience

• 5 years’ experience in Mine surveying in an underground hard rock environment
• Additional experience in Mine Evaluation 

Knowledge and Skills

• Competent as 17.2 appointment
• Valid driver’s license code 08
• Computer literate for necessary systems
