About the Role: We are seeking passionate and experienced Sessional Lecturers in Social Work to contribute to the delivery of the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) at Charles Sturt University Sydney. In this role, you will be responsible for the coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of Social Work subjects, ensuring alignment of subject content and assessment with course learning outcomes and broader institutional academic standards. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, student-centred learning experiences through effective subject coordination and academic support. The position offers an opportunity to positively influence student engagement and success within an inclusive and culturally safe learning environment for all students, including First Nations students. Working collaboratively with academic and professional staff across campuses, you will contribute to curriculum delivery and development, support teaching teams, uphold academic integrity, and implement strategies that enhance student outcomes. This is a face-to-face teaching position based at Sydney campus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity and promotes active student engagement.
• Deliver high-quality, student-centred face to face learning experiences across Social Work subjects using a range of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, group activities, and assessments.
• Engage in reflective teaching practice by incorporating feedback from students and peers to continuously enhance teaching effectiveness.
• Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and support to assist students in achieving their learning goals and developing effective study strategies.
• Assess student work accurately and fairly, undertake marking and grading responsibilities, provide timely and constructive feedback, and maintain appropriate academic records.
• Support student success by offering advice on study skills and academic performance.
• Engage in scholarly activities in line with the Charles Sturt University Scholarly Activity Framework, integrating contemporary knowledge and research-informed practices into teaching.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and remain informed of current developments, emerging trends, and innovations in the Social Work field to support continuous improvement in learning and teaching.
Qualifications and selection criteria
• A Master’s degree in Social Work with a minimum of five years’ post-qualifying professional experience in social work practice and/or teaching Social Work subjects at the university level (a PhD in Social Work or a related field is desirable).
• Demonstrated experience in teaching Social Work at the university level, with proven ability to design, deliver, and assess student learning effectively.
• At least five years of relevant post-qualifying social work experience, with the ability to integrate professional practice into teaching.
• Evidence of a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, student-centred learning and teaching, including experience working in diverse and inclusive environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of Social Work concepts, principles, emerging trends, and related practices, along with awareness of best practices in inclusive education.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and experience contributing to an inclusive and supportive educational community.
• Engagement in scholarly activities or advanced professional practice, membership of relevant professional or scholarly organisations, and familiarity with a range of teaching methods, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
