Job Description
Who are we?
Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients’ appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.
We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We have significant growth plans over the next few years as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites across the UK.
We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work® for the second year running. This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience. The feedback has directly contributed to Newmedica being listed among the UKs top 50 Best Workplaces™ for 2025.
Overview of the role
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Service Engagement Lead to join our team. This is a new role within the business, created to support the development and growth of new patient referrals into the service, provide exceptional customer service to our private patients and coordinate all educational and marketing initiatives.
The role will work across the Newmedica Newcastle region, with an expectation that one week a month will be spent in Scotland, to deliver the required referral numbers to achieve the expected sales targets and growth strategy for the Newmedica Newcastle clinic.
This is a part-time role with a mix of office-based and regional travel days across the Newmedica Newcastle region and Scotland. It will be 24 hours over 3 days a week (08.30-17.00 Monday to Friday with some weekend and evening work for events). Typically, this will include 3 weeks in Newcastle and 1 week in Scotland. Occasional evenings will be required to support our educational and marketing activities and events.
So what will I be doing?
Working across the Newmedica Newcastle region and Scotland, you will deliver the required referral numbers to achieve business targets such as sales and profit plans. You will promote Newmedica Newcastle services and patient choice to deliver referral volumes for both NHS and private patients. You will be highly visible within the community surrounding the clinic and your practical understanding of the local referral community will help Partners to develop referrer engagement plans and build local relationships with referrers such as Opticians, GPs, Referral
Management Centres, LOCs. You will work closely with all Private Medical Insurers to boost our profile and drive private sales through a variety of channels.
You will be the main conduit between the clinic and the central Marketing & Engagement functions. You will be the eyes and ears on the ground and will have a thorough understanding of competitor activity. You will also play a key role in the planning and organising of events such as CPD sessions, local marketing initiatives, attending optical fairs and events and much more.
What skills and experience do I need for the role?
You will have experience within a referrals or sales generation environment. Ideally you will have knowledge of the NHS policy landscape relating to patient referrals, particularly in the ophthalmology sector.
Experience within the optical or ophthalmology industry is an advantage, but not essential.
You will be an organised self-starter– a strong communicator who is able to overcome challenges and influence people to your point of view.
Your friendly and engaging personality will mean that you are adept at establishing effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. You will be used to building long term relationships and will understand how to maintain these contacts in a way that will encourage on-going patient referrals.
You will have experience of organising and managing promotional events and your excellent organisational skills will ensure these are always a success.
You will be comfortable working in a hybrid-based role with a high degree of travel around the Newcastle and Scotland. Whilst the core working time is typical office hours, flexibility will be required regarding travel and after-hours events.
This role will suit a friendly, engaging and confident person who thrives in a fast-paced, target driven environment. Someone who loves being out and about meeting new people and cultivating business relationships.
