Over 1 million homeowners have benefited from our simple, fast, and frictionless technology that makes the adoption of these products more affordable, accessible, and easier to understand. Thousands of professionals deploying home efficiency and solar solutions rely on GoodLeap’s proprietary, AI-powered applications and developer tools to drive more transparent customer communication, deeper business intelligence, and streamlined payment and operations. Our platform has led to more than $27 billion in financing for sustainable solutions since 2018.

GoodLeap is also proud to support our award-winning nonprofit, GivePower, which is building and deploying life-saving water and clean electricity systems, changing the lives of more than 1.6 million people across Africa, Asia, and South America.

The VPP Leader will own the design and execution of GoodLeap’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and DERMS strategy, integrating the company’s distributed energy resources—including solar, battery storage, smart thermostats, and EV chargers—into utility grid programs nationwide. This role will lead the continued development of GoodLeap’s proprietary DERMS and related software platforms to meet the evolving needs of utilities and grid operators. The VPP Leader will bring a strong track record in utility partnerships and enterprise sales, with the ability to structure and negotiate complex commercial agreements and navigate regulatory and market frameworks for demand response, capacity, and ancillary services. Serving as the primary interface with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, regulators, and technology partners, this role will be accountable for driving revenue growth, program adoption, and scale across GoodLeap-owned and partner DER assets.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities::
• Strategy & Leadership
• Define and execute GoodLeap’s VPP strategy, aligned with corporate goals.
• Build and lead a cross-functional team spanning sales, operations, product, and regulatory affairs.
• Utility & Market Engagement
• Lead sales and business development with utilities, grid operators (CAISO, ERCOT, ISO-NE, etc.), and community choice aggregators (CCAs).
• Negotiate and close contracts for VPP participation in demand response, capacity, and grid services markets.
• Represent GoodLeap in regulatory proceedings, market stakeholder groups, and industry forums.
• Program Development
• Develop VPP offerings that deliver value to customers, utilities, and GoodLeap (bill credits, resiliency, revenue streams).
• Partner with technology vendors (DERMS, software platforms, aggregators) to build scalable and reliable VPP operations.
• Ensure compliance with CPUC, FERC, and state-level market rules.
• Partnerships & Growth
• Build strategic alliances with solar/battery OEMs, aggregators, and financing partners.
• Collaborate with GoodLeap’s financing and installer network to expand customer enrollment.
• Track, analyze, and report on VPP performance, market potential, and emerging opportunities.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• 10+ years of experience in energy, with at least 5+ years in utility sales, grid services, or DER program management.
• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree preferred
• Proven track record of negotiating and closing large-scale utility or CCA contracts.
• Strong knowledge of VPPs, DER aggregation, demand response, and grid services markets.
• Familiarity with California (CPUC, CAISO) and at least one other major U.S. energy market.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Compensation: $300,000 - $325,000 annually, plus bonus
