Job Description
Our mission:
At Heartbeat Medical, we build a platform that enables healthcare providers to collect and analyze patients’ pre- and post-treatment input, empowering them to improve care based on the most important data point there is — each individual’s health-related quality of life.
Our product, heartbeat OS, is developed in close collaboration with medical professionals to serve the needs of multiple user groups:
• Patients: surveys and recommendations;
• Clinicians: task management and analytics tools;
• Administrative personnel at hospitals and insurance companies: reporting and data visualization features;
• Internal teams: set up and maintain customers and their care pathways on our platform
…all within a fully GDPR-compliant infrastructure.
Location: Berlin (hybrid)
Type: full-time (part-time also possible)
Salary: 55.000-75.000 EUR (based on relevant experience and working hours)
Your Responsibilities:
• Research: Partner with product managers to research how users interact with Heartbeat’s system, uncover pain points, and validate insights through testing and interviews (German required). Collaborate with Sales and NewBiz team to analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and identify new business opportunities from the customer pool.
• Turn user needs into features: Collaborate with roles/stakeholders to translate research insights into functional product enhancements which simplify complex workflows and improve usability.
• Act quickly, stay strategic: Be comfortable choosing minimal but viable solutions over perfect ones — you know which “good enough” truly moves the needle. You prioritize impact over perfection, understanding the ideal vision while delivering high-value, incremental improvements that solve the most pressing pain points first.
• Design & QA testing: In our company, the product team is responsible for quality assurance. You will conduct design reviews and full-cycle functional testing in collaboration with product managers to ensure feature quality, usability consistency, and alignment with both user and business requirements.
• Maintain and evolve Heartbeat’s design system: Ensure the design system remains scalable, consistent, and aligned with evolving product requirements.
Your Profile:
We are looking for a UX/UI Designer (d/f/m) who takes full ownership of their work and enjoys tackling complex problems independently. As the company’s sole designer, you will own your design domain end-to-end, creatively leverage limited resources, develop problem-solving approaches, and deliver elegant, pragmatic solutions that make an immediate impact while supporting our long-term vision. You move seamlessly from concept to execution, making independent decisions to address challenges with focus, agility, and adaptability.
Experience:• Proven UX/UI experience designing web-based applications and platforms, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving and delivering user-centered solutions that drive impact.
• Partnering with cross-functional teams while taking full ownership of design decisions
• Ability to handle ambiguity and challenge assumptions and pinpoint the critical 20% of a solution that drives the highest impact, even in uncertain situations.
• Proven experience leveraging and shaping design systems to deliver consistent, scalable, and high-impact solutions.
• A portfolio that demonstrates your hypotheses, exploration process, and problem-solving approach: defining the problem space, evaluating options, justifying design decisions, and measuring success at both the user and business level to showcase tangible impact.
• Experience in SaaS, MedTech, or HealthTech is a plus
Skills:• Experience in Figma and prototyping
• Experience with usability testing and basic user research
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React)
• Strong communication skills in German and English (B2 or equivalent)
What awaits you at heartbeat:
• Competitive compensation package
• A permanent contract
• 30 days of vacation leave
• Flexible and family-friendly working hours and policies
• Hybrid and remote-friendly: with the main office in Berlin, we have a strong hybrid working culture that enables efficient teamwork and supports the ongoing development of our team members.
• An open-minded, international cross-functional team. We value opportunities to grow as a team by learning and developing new skills together. We value every idea and concern within our team.
• Urban Sports membership: Benefit from a subsidized Urban Sports Club membership giving you access to a wide range of sports and wellness activities.
• Corporate benefits: enjoy exclusive discounts and special offers from a wide range of partner companies (different vendors such as sports, fashion, tickets, home, etc.)
• Employee Referral scheme: benefit from our attractive employee referral scheme.
