Your mission:
As a Senior Technical Writer at Reliable Controls, you are responsible for creating the user-facing documentation and user interface text to help users work with our suite of hardware and software products. You focus on understanding and using the products like a user and work closely with developers and subject matter experts to ensure our products are documented accurately and on schedule. You also generate associated release documentation and other relevant artifacts. Reporting to the TechComm Manager, you are part of a collaborative team which prides itself on our ability to convert technical jargon into comprehensible, user-focused content.
In this role you will:
Ensure the successful completion of all user content required for product releases.
Develop topic-based content based on DITA principles and technical writing best practices, with an emphasis on usability and consistency with the TechComm voice and style guide.
Generate documentation for Reliable Controls hardware, firmware, and software products, in multiple formats including integrated help, HTML and PDF.
Use Reliable Controls products like a customer to understand workflow, product operation, and potential customer pain points.
Attend sprint demos, review provided resources and otherwise research and gather information required for accurate documentation.
Understand and integrate information into clear, consistent, comprehensive, useful content.
Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to generate clear, consistent, comprehensive and useful user interface text and messaging.
Project-manage documentation deliverables to coordinate with software, firmware, and hardware product development processes.
Continuously improve TechComm team deliverables and processes by collaborating with the team to develop and share topics, content, ideas, and expertise.
Contribute to TechComm best practices, content, and style guide, and reinforce these when reviewing content produced by others.
This role might be right for you if you have:
5+ years of technical writing experience in software or firmware product development.
Expertise in applying technical writing best practices such as DITA, minimalism, and topic-based authoring.
Expert technical writing and composition skills.
Degree or diploma in technical writing, computer science, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Proficiency in MadCap Flare or other online help authoring tools.
Working knowledge of:
HTML and CSS.
Confluence and Jira, or other project management tools.
Agile and project management roles and processes.
