We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant / Tax Preparer to join a well-established public accounting practice in San Jose, CA. This full-time role is ideal for a tax professional with 3–5 years of public accounting experience who enjoys working directly with individuals and small business clients.
This position blends tax preparation, bookkeeping, and advisory support, offering meaningful client interaction while maintaining a manageable workload during peak tax season. Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and review federal and California income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and small businesses
• Provide ongoing bookkeeping and general accounting support for business clients
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
• Assist with payroll processing, quarterly payroll reports, and sales tax compliance
• Support month-end and year-end closing procedures
• Communicate directly with clients regarding tax documentation, financial records, and compliance requirements
• Ensure adherence to federal and California tax regulations
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance workflow efficiency
• Maintain organized client files and accurate documentation
Requirements:
• 3–5 years of public accounting experience
• Strong experience preparing individual (1040) and small business tax returns
• Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
• Experience with bookkeeping, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
• CPA license or CPA candidate status preferred
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet tax deadlines
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
