We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-focused Senior Tax Associate to join an established public accounting team in Woodstock, Vermont. This role is well suited for a tax professional with strong expertise in federal, state, and local tax compliance who enjoys working directly with clients while contributing to a collaborative accounting environment.
The Senior Tax Associate will take a leading role in preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, providing technical guidance, and supporting strategic tax planning initiatives. In addition to client-facing responsibilities, this role includes mentoring junior staff members and assisting with research on evolving tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and estates
• Conduct tax research and analyze complex compliance matters to ensure accurate reporting
• Provide strategic tax planning recommendations to help clients reduce tax exposure and improve financial outcomes
• Communicate with clients and internal teams to obtain documentation and resolve tax-related issues
• Review work prepared by junior staff and provide mentorship to support skill development and accuracy
• Stay informed on changes to U.S. tax laws and regulatory updates and communicate relevant impacts
• Assist with responses to IRS and state tax notices, audits, and related inquiries
• Support special projects, tax planning initiatives, and internal process improvements
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related discipline
• 3+ years of public accounting experience in tax preparation, compliance, or advisory services
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Experience preparing complex returns for individuals and business entities
• Familiarity with tax preparation platforms such as UltraTax, ProSystem, or similar software
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office applications
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA licensure
• Experience working with diverse clients across multiple industries
• Prior experience mentoring or reviewing work for junior accounting staff
