We are seeking an experienced Senior Storage & Backup Engineer to lead the design, management, and optimisation of enterprise storage and backup environments. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, and recoverability of organisational data while aligning with business continuity and compliance requirements.

About the Role

As a senior technical specialist, you will oversee storage infrastructure (SAN & NAS), backup platforms, and disaster recovery processes. You will play a key role in capacity planning, performance optimisation, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position also includes mentoring responsibilities and close collaboration with cross-functional technology teams.

Responsibilities:
• Lead the deployment, management, and optimisation of SAN and NAS storage environments
• Oversee backup solutions, ensuring reliable, secure, and compliant data protection
• Drive capacity planning, forecasting, and performance tuning activities
• Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery and restoration procedures
• Conduct regular backup testing and recovery simulations
• Manage replication, snapshot policies, and recovery validation processes
• Ensure compliance with data retention, governance, and regulatory requirements
• Lead troubleshooting and incident response for storage and backup-related issues
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of architectures and operational procedures
• Support audit activities and drive timely remediation of findings
• Collaborate with server, database, network, and application teams to ensure seamless data availability
• Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with third-party support providers
• Oversee secure decommissioning and disposal of end-of-life storage hardware
• Mentor and guide L2 Support Analysts to strengthen technical capabilities
• Contribute to service reviews, SLA reporting, and governance processes
• Drive continuous improvement and optimisation initiatives

Requirements:
• Advanced knowledge of SAN and NAS architectures (e.g., HPE, Dell EMC, NetApp, VMware vSAN, Cisco HyperFlex or similar technologies)
• Strong understanding of fabric management (e.g., Cisco, Brocade)
• Experience with provisioning, multipath configuration, zoning, and masking
• Expertise in replication technologies, snapshot management, and recovery testing
• Hands-on experience with enterprise backup platforms (e.g., Rubrik or comparable solutions), including application-consistent backups and disaster recovery simulations
• Proven experience in data migration, lifecycle management, and secure decommissioning
• Strong understanding of storage security and access control principles
• Capacity planning, cost optimisation, and forecasting skills
• Experience collaborating with infrastructure and database teams on throughput and restore planning
• Ability to mentor and develop junior team members
