Job Description:
The Senior Accountant in Development provides comprehensive accounting and financial support across multiple entities, with a focus on project budget maintenance, reconciliation and process improvements. They assist with accurate budget and job cost tracking, financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and supports project developments through cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and operational efficiency.
Assist the Accounting Manager and/or Assistant Controller with the acquisition fund budget and cash flow projections
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies.
Supervise and review the work performed by the Staff Accountant
Review project cost tracking and analysis
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities and ensures compliance with reporting standards and regulations.
Review and ensure Lotus standards and operating procedures are being followed for development draws, accounts payable processing, bank reconciliations, and vendor management.
Leverage Yardi Voyager for development accounting, reporting, and system optimization.
Collaborate with development and property management teams to ensure accurate financial tracking.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, MBA or Macc preferred.
CPA, CMA or progress toward certification preferred.
Minimum of 3 -5 years of accounting experience, ideally in property development.
Experience in Yardi Voyager is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel; understanding of GAAP and job costing and draw processes. Experience with reconciliation and journal entries.
Soft Skills: Analytical mindset, high attention to detail, strong organizational skills, effective communicator, and collaborative team player.
Compliance & Systems: Experience in entity set up within accounting systems and troubleshooting accounting platform issues.
Work Environment & Schedule:
This is a full-time, in-office position based on the 13th floor of our downtown Salt Lake City headquarters, with core hours Monday through Friday. Our office at Second + State offers expansive views of the city and surrounding mountains, access to a private balcony, and close proximity to a wide range of restaurants, cafés, and amenities within walking distance. The building also provides an on-site fitness facility and covered, year-round parking.
