Senior Software Engineer - Quantum Networking

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in full-stack development. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be a key part of an interdisciplinary team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.

In this role, you'll contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of critical software infrastructure that supports IonQ's next-generation trapped-ion quantum computers. You'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact by laying the foundation for a high-quality codebase that empowers both engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and test high-quality, maintainable code for various components of IonQ's software ecosystem.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and product managers to understand requirements and translate them into effective software solutions.

• Contribute to the architecture and design of our services-based infrastructure.

• Champion best practices for software development, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).

• Proactively identify and address technical challenges and opportunities for improvement.

• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers.

You'd be a good fit:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proficiency in two or more of: Typescript, modern Python, Go, Rust.

• Experience with modern Git workflows.

• Experience building and deploying services-based architectures.

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

You'd be a great fit:

• Master's or PhD in a scientific or technical field (Physics, Math, Chemistry, etc.).

• Familiarity with python’s scientific computing libraries.

• Experience working in a scientific or technical environment.

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).

• A passion for quantum computing and its potential impact.

• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,119 - $167,740.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
