Senior Software Engineer – Feature Flags (Rust) (Lisbon)

Datadog’s Feature Flags team builds tools that help customers control application behavior, reduce deployment risk, and power advanced experimentation. Our work spans multiple languages and platforms, leveraging a shared Rust-based core and OpenFeature integrations to ensure performance and reliability at scale. We operate with the speed and innovation of a growth-stage startup, bolstered by Datadog’s acquisition of Eppo. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll help shape the future of our experimentation platform, working across systems where correctness, global distribution, and low-latency performance are critical.

What You’ll Do:

• Develop high-performance SDKs across a wide variety of languages and platforms, many of which share a Rust-based core

• Contribute to the evolution of OpenFeature and its surrounding open-source ecosystem

• Design and implement systems to support advanced experimentation models such as mutual exclusion, holdouts, and contextual multi-armed bandits

• Architect global systems for distributing feature flag configurations and ingesting evaluations reliably and at low latency

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate feature flagging with Datadog’s observability and AI-assisted development products

Who You Are:

• Experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems through iteration and pragmatism

• Motivated by a fast-moving, customer-facing product environment with startup-like energy

• Comfortable working across multiple programming languages, with a strong ability to learn new ones quickly

• Proficient in Rust and eager to expand a shared Rust core that powers SDKs and edge components

• Skilled at cross-team collaboration and identifying solutions that balance impact and effort
