Senior Software Development Engineer (Backend) - Subs & Pay

Job Summary: As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of core systems that drive JioStar’s advertising capabilities - from ad delivery and targeting to measurement and optimization. You’ll own large-scale projects end to end, operate with autonomy, and play a key role in shaping the architecture and future direction of our high-throughput, low-latency systems. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on solving hard distributed systems problems and mentoring others toward engineering excellence.

About the Team: JioStar’s Subscriptions and Payments Team powers the end-to-end direct monetization engine for India’s largest subscription platform, with over 250M+ subscriptions. We build scalable, multi-tenant systems for acquiring users via D2C and partner channels, reducing churn through intelligent renewal and retry mechanisms, and integrating deeply with global and local payment ecosystems like UPI Autopay and card mandates. Our platform drives seamless onboarding, high retention, and reliable payments at scale—enabling frictionless subscription experiences across geographies and devices.

Key responsibilities:
• Design and build scalable, resilient microservices that power JioStar’s ad tech stack
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex backend projects, from technical design to deployment and monitoring
• Write high-quality, maintainable code, and ensure rigorous testing and fault tolerance
• Drive architectural decisions and influence long-term engineering strategy for the team
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into tech solutions
• Take ownership of operational excellence, including performance tuning, incident response, and root cause analysis
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct technical deep dives and code reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing

Skills and attributes for success::
• Proficiency in Java, Golang, or Python
• Experience designing and building distributed systems at scale
• Strong understanding of storage systems, query performance, and caching strategies
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), messaging systems (Kafka), and CI/CD pipelines
• Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage delivery timelines in fast-paced environments
• You are passionate about growing engineers and leading by example
• Curious about how advertising systems work and how to optimize them for user and business outcomes

Preferred education and experience: :
• Bachelors/master's in computer science or a related field with 4–6 years of experience in backend development
