Senior SEO/AEO Strategist (Contract role)

Role Overview

We’re seeking a strategic, forward-thinking SEO/AEO leader to define and drive our global search and generative engine optimization strategy. This role is built for someone who brings deep technical expertise, a test-and-learn mindset, and the confidence to chart their own path in the evolving world of AI search.

This role is ideal for a search-first strategist who thrives on both execution and innovation. You’ll lead traditional and AI-enhanced SEO efforts, influence how our content shows up in AI-driven engines like Google SGE, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot, and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize every step of our digital presence.

In addition to being a technical SEO expert, you’ll also need to be an excellent communicator and content partner who is able to guide content writers and PMMs, create AI GPTs, agents, and workflows, and align marketing execution with business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Search Strategy & Execution

•
Define and own the global SEO + AEO strategy, including setting quarterly goals, KPIs, and roadmaps aligned to business outcomes.

•
Lead holistic keyword research, gap analysis, and optimization initiatives across paid and organic search efforts using tools like SEMRush and Ahrefs.

•
Provide input into editorial and content planning calendars to align with search and AI engine trends.

•
Optimize on-page SEO elements (e.g., title tags, headers, metadata, internal linking).

•
Partner with paid media and demand teams to coordinate SEO + SEM keyword portfolios for shared pipeline goals.

AI-Enhanced Optimization (AEO)

•
Monitor how Vectra content surfaces in generative interfaces like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Google SGE and optimize accordingly.

•
Lead the implementation of schema, FAQs, structured data, and conversational formats to improve AI snippet performance.

•
Build and maintain custom GPTs and automation workflows (e.g., using Zapier or Make) to accelerate content optimization and AI agent visibility. (Bonus, not required)

Technical SEO & Web Performance

•
Conduct regular technical SEO audits (crawlability, schema, Core Web Vitals, etc.).

•
Collaborate with developers and designers to implement improvements (e.g., page speed, lazy loading, responsive layout).

•
Work with the development and production team to ensure SEO and UX best practices are embedded in every build and with the PMM and content team to ensure content offers and videos are fully optimized, providing them best practices and AEO GPT/agents for self-service efficiency.

•
Implement and maintain structured data across key pages to support both SEO and AEO visibility.

Content Strategy & Collaboration

•
Work with product marketers, security SMEs, and copywriters to build scalable, high-quality, keyword-aligned content.

•
Educate internal teams on SEO/AEO best practices and create repeatable content workflows using AI.

•
Optimize and repurpose atomized messaging & content for various formats: listicles, landing pages, solution pages, blogs, comparison pages, etc.

•
Influence AI-generated content strategy (including prompt development, keyword alignment, and tone).

Off-Page SEO & Backlinking

•
Drive backlink strategy through outreach, PR collaboration, and partner content syndication.

•
Continuously improve internal linking structure to boost SEO performance.

•
Monitor off-page SEO health and identify opportunities to grow domain authority.

Measurement & Reporting

•
Track and report on SEO performance KPIs (traffic, rankings, conversions, CTRs).

•
Monitor AEO visibility and experiment with optimizations that influence generative engine results.

•
Deliver regular insights and strategic recommendations to marketing leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

•
Proven ability to design and lead independent SEO/AEO strategies with measurable business impact.

•
Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.

•
5+ years of technical SEO experience, preferably in cybersecurity or B2B SaaS.

•
Deep understanding of generative search trends, AI agents, and AEO best practices.

•
Hands-on experience with Webflow and/or equivalent CMS platforms.

•
Advanced proficiency in SEMRush, Google Analytics, Search Console, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Scrunch AI, and related tools.

•
Fluent in HTML, schema markup, and modern technical SEO practices.

•
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills; capable of influencing across tehcnical and non-technical teams.

•
Experience with AI tooling and prompt engineering, including GPTs and workflow builders like Zapier or Make (Bonus)

Bonus Skills:

•
Conversion rate optimization (CRO) expertise aligning to align SEO with lead generation and buyer journey stages.

•
Experience creating and fine-tuning custom GPTs or deploying AI copilots for content creation and optimization.

•
Familiarity with HubSpot, Marketo, or similar marketing automation platforms.
