Senior Self-Certification Architect

We are looking for an experienced Senior Self-Certification Architect to join our growing design/build team in Berwyn, IL. This position is ideal for a licensed Chicago architect who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys leading design teams, and wants to play a central role in shaping a collaborative architectural practice. Based in Berwyn, this role involves guiding projects from initial concepts through permitting and construction, ensuring design excellence while mentoring junior staff. Candidates should bring substantial experience with self-certification procedures, local zoning ordinances, and building codes, with the ability to oversee multiple projects in Berwyn simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Direct architectural design projects for rooftop additions, residential, multi-unit, and mixed-use developments in Berwyn.
• Manage all phases of projects, from conceptual design through permitting and construction coordination.
• Mentor and supervise junior designers, ensuring all work meets Berwyn zoning regulations and building codes.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, inspection, and construction teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Oversee multiple projects at once while maintaining quality, deadlines, and client satisfaction.
• Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to align expectations.
• Contribute to the growth of the Berwyn office by providing leadership, design insight, and operational support.

Requirements:
• 10+ years of experience as a licensed Chicago architect.
• Proven knowledge of Self-Certification processes preferred.
• Strong familiarity with Berwyn zoning, permitting, and building codes.
• Ability to manage projects independently and lead junior designers successfully.
• Self-driven, highly organized professional with excellent attention to detail.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Hands-on construction or design/build experience is a plus
