We’re looking for a Director to join our Risk & Controls Discipline (RCD) to lead our central Shared Services function, to drive fresh thinking within the first line risk management space, and help us achieve the next phase of our growth ambition. The successful person will help our Risk Business Partners and senior leaders to shape and implement controls, and operationalise all aspects of Monzo’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) in the first line of defence.

As Director of Shared Services, you will lead the Shared Services function to empower our Risk Business Partners with the tools, processes and information to give actionable insights to our business leaders. Directors at Monzo join the company-wide Senior Leadership Team and are expected to lead both within their role but also make a broad impact across the organisation.

⭐ Our Shares Services team

The RCD Shared Services function consists of five core pillars:

• Controls Assurance - Monzo wide controls testing, providing Risk Owners with assurance, formulating annual controls effectiveness attestation in line with the UK Corporate governance Code, driving data analytics and automation.

• Governance & Reporting - delivering high quality executive risk reporting - both through Committees and live dashboards. Includes coordination of Risk & Control Self-Assessment and Change governance.

• Policies & Standards - maintaining our global policy & standard library, coordinating refreshes and driving consistency and control.

• Conduct - subject matter experts for Conduct Risk - leading our Consumer Duty obligations, including annual board report, outcome testing and product reviews.

• Transformation - leading our RCD change programmes as we scale internationally and seek automation through our risk & control processes, including adoption of AI.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

• Leading a team of experts, balancing delivery with continuous improvement, and engaging with senior leadership to drive strategic impact

• Representing Monzo in external regulatory engagements and industry forums, managing requests and enhancing our regulatory relationships

• Ensuring thorough execution of risk-based commitments, and synthesise insights from risk assessments to inform both current and future practices

• Aggregating and challenging outputs from risk assessments (RCSA) in the 1st line, joining the dots, making sense of the combined results and focussing on both historical and proposed practices

• Elevate Monzo’s control environment to greater maturity and scalability, pioneering a proactive approach to risk management

• Fostering positive relationships across the three lines of defence, addressing control gaps, implementing effective solutions, and promoting a transparent risk culture

• You bring exceptional risk and control expertise from UK banks, financial services, or FinTech

• You have a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and tackle complex issues in matrix environments

• You have a strong track record in managing 1st line risk - and are ‘hands on’ in doing so - with experience growing new business ‘in control’

• You’re a data driven control leader

• You thrive in fast-paced settings, showcasing resilience, adaptability, and exceptional execution skills as the landscape evolves

• You exhibit curiosity and collaboration, adept at asking insightful questions and quickly acting on new information

• Experience in fintech, deploying AI, or working in scaling environments or tech companies is a plus!

📍This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)
