Required Skills
Job Description
Senior Python Developer (Internal Tools & Data Automation)
Location: Nashville, TN (Midtown/Vanderbilt Area)
Work Model: Hybrid (3–4 days per week in-office)
Role Type: Full-Time / Senior Individual Contributor
The Mission
We are looking for a Senior Python Developer to serve as the technical anchor for our internal automation and data initiatives. In this role, you won’t just be writing code; you will be the primary architect of the "helper apps" and data pipelines that power our business. You will work directly with business leaders and technical users to identify bottlenecks and build elegant, Pythonic solutions to solve them.
If you enjoy the variety of building a REST API one day and engineering a complex PDF data extraction script the next, this is the role for you.
What You’ll Do
Architect & Build: Design, develop, and maintain robust RESTful APIs (FastAPI/Flask) and consume third-party services to bridge data gaps.
Data Extraction & Analysis: Lead the development of text-based PDF extraction pipelines, transforming unstructured documents into actionable data.
Rapid Prototyping: Build "helper apps" and automation scripts in a fast-paced environment to increase team velocity and operational efficiency.
Full Ownership: Act as the primary Python subject matter expert. You will choose the best tools for the job (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, PyMuPDF) and set the standard for code quality.
Collaborate: Partner with cross-functional teams (Business & Tech) to translate complex requirements into technical specifications.
Integrate: Work alongside our dedicated DevOps team to ensure your applications are scalable, secure, and easily deployed.
What You Bring
Senior Expertise: 5+ years of professional experience in Python development with a focus on data-centric applications.
API Mastery: Proven experience building and scaling RESTful APIs and integrating with complex 3rd-party APIs.
Data Wrangling: Expert-level skills in data analysis and manipulation (Pandas, SQL).
Document Processing: Hands-on experience with text-based PDF extraction and processing (e.g., PyMuPDF, PyPDF2, or similar).
Agile Mindset: You thrive in a "builder" environment where you move fast, iterate quickly, and deliver high-value internal tools.
Communication: The ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders is essential.
The "Midtown" Vibe
Located in the heart of the Midtown/Vanderbilt neighborhood, our office is surrounded by Nashville’s best dining and energy. We value in-person collaboration, which is why we spend 3–4 days a week in the office, balanced with the flexibility of remote work.
Technical Stack (Examples of what you’ll use):
Languages: Python 3.10+
Frameworks: FastAPI, Flask, or Django
Libraries: Pandas, NumPy, PyMuPDF, Requests
Infrastructure: Support from a dedicated DevOps team (CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes)
How to Stand Out
You have a portfolio of internal tools or "glue" scripts that have solved real business problems.
You have a strong opinion on the best libraries for PDF text extraction vs. OCR.
You enjoy being the "go-to" person for all things Python.
