A Day in the Life
In this role, you will play a key role in shaping Medtronic Ireland’s grants & incentives agenda, coordinating closely with relevant internal teams including Finance, Government Affairs on policy alignment and relationships with funders, and R&D on research ambition and direction. A Day in the Life In this role:
Play a key role in shaping Medtronic Ireland’s grants & incentives agenda, coordinating closely with relevant internal teams including Finance, Government Affairs on policy alignment and relationships with funders, and R&D on research ambition and direction. You will be responsible for integrating these perspectives and crafting a clear, persuasive narrative for R&D funding applications.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Strategy & Planning
• Support the development and execution of comprehensive grants and incentive strategy aligned to Medtronic’s innovation and R&D priorities
• Embed incentives planning early in the investment and R&D lifecycle, ensuring projects are positioned, structured, and approved ahead of spend to maximise eligibility and minimise ineligibility risk
• Translate strategic priorities into a robust, actionable funding pipeline, with clear delivery plans and success metrics
• Identify and assess opportunities across EU frameworks, Irish government programmes, and global funding bodies
• Operate as the Ireland-based subject matter expert for grants and incentives, providing insights and recommendations to inform funding strategy
• Develop awareness of adjacent incentive domains (e.g. sustainability, talent and skills, capital investment) and how these complement R&D funding strategies. Grant Development & Execution
• Partner with teams at early concept stage to evaluate funding requirements and fit with potential external sources, clarify eligibility criteria, and establish structured pathways for successful application development
• Lead the development of complex grant applications, including multi-partner and consortium submissions
• Write, edit, and review high-quality, persuasive proposals that translate technical and clinical innovation into clear value and impact
• Responsible for the internal process for shaping, reviewing, and submitting grant proposals to ensure consistency, competitiveness, and compliance Partnerships & External Engagement
• Collaborate with Enterprise Government Affairs to support engagement with funding bodies, including alignment on incentives, policy developments, and best practices
• Contribute to the development of partnerships with academic institutions, research organisations, and industry consortia to support Medtronic Ireland’s participation in collaborative funding initiatives and programmes
• Build strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholders to enable successful funding outcomes Impact & Reporting
• Oversee awarded grants to ensure full compliance with contractual milestones and reporting obligations • Implement structured tools or dashboards to track funding pipelines, milestones, obligations, and outcomes across the incentives portfolio.
• Provide regular updates and insights to senior stakeholders on funding performance, pipeline, and risks
Required Knowledge and Experience
• Bachelor’s level 8 degree required in relevant field
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in project management, grant writing, research funding, or strategic funding roles or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
• Demonstrated understanding of the Irish incentives landscape, including R&D Tax Credits, IDA RD&I grants, and proven track record of securing significant national or EU-level funding
• Experience managing complex, cross-functional proposals and stakeholder environments
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
• Experience engaging with government agencies or public funding bodies Nice to Have • Advanced degree MBA desirable
• Experience within MedTech, technology or healthcare innovation environments • Familiarity with EU funding programmes (e.g. Horizon Europe)
• Experience working in academic collaborations

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
