Senior Platform Engineer - Cloud Operations

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Operations team, working across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this role, you'll make a significant impact across Nine’s premier media portfolio by optimising the cloud infrastructure powering iconic brands like The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, 9Now, and Stan. You will drive organisation-wide value by reducing cloud spend, enhancing security and empowering our engineering teams to accelerate cloud adoption and deliver world-class content to millions of Australians. This position requires a strong understanding of cloud technologies, automation, and best practices for infrastructure as code.

What you'll do:

• Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP. 

• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager.

• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments. 

• Monitor and optimise system performance, availability, and security.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues.

• Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth application deployments. 

• Document infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures.

• Participate in on-call rotations for incident response.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and trends

What You'll bring:

 

• Strong experience with AWS and/or GCP services, including compute, storage, networking, and security.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

•  
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager.

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, teamCity, GitLab CI).

• Experience with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

• Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols. 

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Highly desirable:

 

• AWS or GCP certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect).

• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)
