Hunt Electric, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee and execute the full-cycle payroll process for a multi-state workforce. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely wage payments, proper tax withholdings and filings, child support and garnishment calculations and remittances, compliant benefits deductions, and adherence to all federal, state, and construction-specific payroll regulations. This role ensures accurate weekly payroll processing, certified payroll compliance, prevailing wage adherence, and proper labor cost allocation to jobs.
The Senior Payroll Specialist position requires advanced knowledge of construction payroll regulations, multi-state tax compliance, certified payroll reporting, fringe benefit administration, and strong reconciliation skills. This role serves as a technical resource to payroll staff and supports audits, system improvements, and compliance initiatives.
Major Duties:
Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for salaried, hourly, and non-union employees.
Audit timekeeping records for accuracy, job coding, and cost allocation.
Validate overtime calculations, shift differentials, per diem, travel pay, and bonus payments.
Review and reconcile payroll registers prior to final transmission.
Prepare and review certified payroll reports (WH-347) in compliance with:
U.S. Department of Labor requirements
Davis-Bacon and Related Acts
State prevailing wage regulations
Verify correct wage determinations and worker classifications.
Ensure fringe benefits are properly calculated and allocated.
Maintain documentation for audit support and public works reporting.
Process payroll tax withholdings and ensure proper jurisdictional coding.
Reconcile federal filings (Form 941) and support year-end reporting (W-2).
Support compliance with reporting requirements of the:
Internal Revenue Service
Social Security Administration
Assist with SUTA registrations and compliance when entering new states.
Administer wage garnishments, levies, and child support orders.
Reconcile payroll to the general ledger monthly.
Analyze payroll variance reports and investigate discrepancies.
Assist in preparing audit schedules for internal and external audits.
Maintain strong internal controls over payroll processing and approval workflows
Serve as subject matter expert for payroll system and timekeeping integrations.
Assist with payroll system upgrades or implementations.
Develop process documentation and training materials.
Mentor and support Payroll Specialists and Coordinators.
Actively contributes to a positive team environment.
Demonstrates dependability with regular attendance and compliance to scheduled work hours.
Be a self starter.
Other duties or locations as assigned by Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
5-8+ years of progressive payroll experience
3+ years in construction payroll
Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
Demonstrated experience with Certified Payroll, Multi-state payroll processing
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
High attention to detail and accuracy
Regulatory and compliance awareness
Ability to pass background check.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a typical working schedule of Monday - Thursday 7:00am – 4:30pm and Fridays 7:00am – 2:00pm.
