Job Description
The Senior Payroll Specialist serves as the point of contact for the payroll team and works alongside the Payroll Manager to ensure that the payroll team accurately issues pay to employees in accordance with established practices and guidelines. Performs various payroll-related duties as outlined.
Main Job Tasks & Responsibilities
Serves as the team’s point of contact regarding questions
Communicates employee concerns and suggestions to the manager
Performs data entry and reconciles timesheets
Processes child support and garnishments
Processes and file all weekly, monthly, quarterly, city and school taxes
Pays weekly federal and state payroll taxes
Communicate with internal departments to obtain necessary information
Sorts and mails paychecks
Tracks/processes payment and reports on per diem
Processes unemployment claims and taxes
Assists with audit preparation
Assists with and processes union fringe payments
Enters and processes union raises
Assists with and/or completes check runs and reporting
Covers the work duties of the Payroll Manager when the manager is away from the office
Other tasks as assigned
Skills & Requirements
Understanding of various union policies and procedures
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
Education & Experience
Minimum high school diploma
Comparable and/or actual progressive experience working in a construction-based payroll department
