About the Client:

Large public transport operator based in Brussels, responsible for managing metro, tram, and bus networks across the region. The organization operates a complex and critical infrastructure and relies heavily on secure, high-performing IT and network systems to ensure safe and continuous daily operations.

Due to the essential nature of public transportation services, strong emphasis is placed on network security, reliability, and operational resilience, making IT security roles highly strategic within the organization.

About the project:

The organization is looking for a Senior Network Security Engineer to strengthen its internal network and security capabilities.

The consultant will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining network security solutions, while also contributing to automation initiatives and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing network security strategies
• Configuring and maintaining:
• Firewalls
• VPNs
• Proxies (forward/reverse)
• Load balancers

• Monitoring networks to detect and respond to security incidents
• Performing security audits and vulnerability assessments
• Supporting and coaching the internal network team
• Creating automation solutions and playbooks
• Contributing to process documentation (including compliance such as NIS2)
• Acting as a technical expert in incident resolution and cross-team collaboration

Requirements:
Technical Skills

The ideal candidate is a Senior-level Network Security Engineer with strong expertise in network infrastructure and security.

Core technical requirements:

• Strong expertise in:
• Network security (firewalls, VPN, proxies, WAF)
• Routing & switching (IP routing, MPLS, WiFi)
• Load balancing

• Experience with:
• Cloud networking (Azure, ExpressRoute)
• Secure access concepts (ZTNA)

• Strong knowledge of:
• DNS
• TACACS
• Security protocols and cryptography

Automation & tooling:

• Experience with:
• Automation tools (Ansible)
• Scripting
• Algosec
• Netskope

Monitoring & troubleshooting:

• Strong experience in:
• Security incident management
• Network troubleshooting (Wireshark)
• Problem management

Additional expectations:

• Ability to design and maintain automation playbooks
• Contribution to CI/CD and infrastructure automation
• Ability to perform code/configuration reviews

Language:

• French or Dutch: Excellent
• Second national language: Good understanding
• English: Good
